Johann-Dietrich Wörner

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johann-Dietrich Wörner, was born on July 18, 1954 in Kassel, Germany. He studied Civil Engineering at the TU Berlin and TU Darmstadt from 1973-1979, and joined König und Heunisch Consulting Frankfurt from 1979-1990. In 1982, Johann-Dietrich Wörner went to Japan as part of a research stay on the subject of earthquake safety and received his doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) in 1985. In 1990, he was appointed professor for solid construction at the TU Darmstadt and in 1994 founded Wörner Nordhues Engineering. From 1995-2007, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johann-Dietrich Wörner was President of the TU Darmstadt and subsequently became CEO of the German Center for Space and Aeronautics DLR. From 2015-2021 he was Director General of the European Space Agency (ESA) and only recently became President of the German Academy of Science and Engineering termed acatech. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johann-Dietrich Wörner is married and has 3 children.
