Eckhard Thines

Biotechnology Coordinator for the State Government Rheinland-Pfalz, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz

Thines is a biotechnologist working on microbial secondary metabolites as lead structures for pharmaceutical or agricultural applications. Furthermore, he is using natural products as biochemical tools to investigate the mode of action, respectively the molecular target of such compounds. He is also interested in the de-synthesis of (bio)-polymers by microorganisms in order to use the metabolic activity in circular economy. He is involved in the SusInnoScience profile area at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in which sustainable chemistry as the key to innovation in resource-efficient science is addressed. Thines is Biotechnology Coordinator for the State Government of Rhineland-Palatinate.
