Abstract: At Mimotype, we have developed a high-performing platform for bio-photonic materials systems by integrating biotechnology and organic electronics, pioneering bio-morphic sustainable tech applications. Central to our approach is the use of GFP, fluorescent proteins derived from marine bioluminescence. GFP emits green light upon exposure to UV or blue light. Our team has the capability to: 1) engineer GFP’s genetic code to generate red, blue and green emitting variants, which we produce using bacteria, 2) encapsulate GFP variants in nanoshells and embed them into polymer matrices for deployment in real-world applications, 3) scale this pipeline using bioreactors. This approach facilitates the in-house production of high-performance, biodegradable, flexible, light-emitting materials. Collaborating with Humboldt University and supported by SPRIND, we are fine-tuning these materials for specific needs, like color-converting films for AgTech, OLED technologies and flexible wearables.
