Editor, AAAS/Science Translational Medicine

Orla Smith Ph.D. is the Editor of Science Translational Medicine, an international weekly publication of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, with an impact factor of 17.2. Previously, Orla was the Founding Editor of Cell’s Leading Edge, and before that was Biology Perspectives Editor at Science where she also edited research manuscripts on neurodegenerative diseases. She began her scientific publishing career as News and Views Editor at Nature Medicine. Orla has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London, and did postdoctoral work at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.
