Workshop: Bioconvergence – “From Digital Twin to informational avatar”

After decades of siloed academic and industry divisions we are witnessing rapid convergence. At the forefront is bioconvergence – a multidisciplinary approach harnessing synergies across biology, software, and engineering to innovate, for example in translational medicine and neuromorphic computing. Capitalizing on opportunities presented by bioconvergence poses challenges across the research cycle. In this session we focus and pick one example, digital twin, and translate its model from the production domain (1:1 end-to-end simulation of a production site, incl. Material and data flows) to the domain of personalized healthcare, thus “from digital twin to informational avatar”. We focus on the virtual domain (i.e. the digital twin / informational avatar), and aim to understand multi scale modeling (molecule, cell, organ, person, social interaction), the compositional aspect of the components over multiple scales, multi-scale computation / emulation (classical, quantum, neuromorphic, analog biological) for the generation of synthetic data and what-if simulations. Another block will focus on needed high precision sensor data, their modes (mechanic, acoustic, electric, chemical, magnetic, temperature, quantum properties where applicable …) feeding the virtual model, and discuss the potential outcome (avatar, health progression) as well as its ethical implications. Finally, we will embed this in the wider field of bioconvergence where applicable (artificial organs, bioelectronics). Panel: Firestarter: Nina Siragusa, Technology Chief of Staff, Science & Technology Office, Merck KGaA – Bioconvergence Revolution Keynote: Prith Banerjee, CTO Ansys Digital Twins in Healthcare: Leveraging Computer Models and Simulation to Make You Live Longer and Health Session Chair: Thomas Ehmer, Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany – IT Healthcare R&D Digital & Data Innovation, Merck KGaA Darmstadt Germany”
