Danny Bar-Zohar

Danny Bar-Zohar, MD, is responsible for the Research and Development organization, including Medical Affairs, for the Healthcare business of Merck. With his teams, Danny focuses on the discovery and development of novel assets with transformative potential in immunology, neurology, oncology, and immuno-oncology and translating them into the healthcare solutions of tomorrow. He is a member of the Healthcare Executive Committee, which provides the strategic oversight for the overall Healthcare business. Danny works relentlessly to bring first-in-class/best-in-class therapies to patients, harnessing advanced therapeutic platforms and novel methodologies. He is committed to fostering a culture where bold ideas raise the bar for drug discovery and development. Before joining Merck in November 2020 initially as Global Head of Development, Danny has more than a decade of leadership experience in pharma, having worked previously at Novartis, Teva Pharmaceuticals and venture capital firm Syncona Investment Management. He brings global drug development experience from strategy to execution to his position, across almost every modality in drug development, including small molecules, therapeutic proteins, antibodies and gene therapy. His visionary and courageous approach has helped to deliver multiple new global therapeutic approvals at both, Teva Pharmaceuticals and Novartis, with the aim to support patients at every stage of their lives. Danny has a deep knowledge of the international regulatory environment and its requirements with broad dealings with major global health authorities. Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, Danny spent several years training a general surgeon at the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center in Israel and served as an airborne rescue physician in a special forces unit in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
